Trying to Stay Present

We are only ever where our feet are. I keep having to remind myself of that.

The world is moving fast right now. The news, the noise, the constant hum of it all , it's easy to get swept up in what's happening next. And yet, here we are.

As the solstice approaches, some of us are in the height of summer and others are
moving into the shortest days of winter. No matter where you are, we are in the thick of it. The highest energy or the longest nights.

This is what I am practicing this season: staying present. Fully, deliberately here.

Over the past few weeks I've been lucky enough to stand humbled under the Milky Way, flail around with my fly rod in a few rivers (my A River Runs Through It dreams remain very much alive and largely unrealized), and dance until my feet hurt with people I love. In those moments, everything falls away. There is only this: the water, the light, the ground under my feet, the people directly next to me.

That's the invitation I want to offer you today. Take a pause, right now, wherever you are. Look around. What do you see? What's here, in this moment, that you can be genuinely grateful for, without noting what's missing or what needs to happen next? Just this. Just here.

And then, once you're here, ask yourself something a little bigger: How do you want to show up in this moment?

Not in some future version of your life. Not once things calm down or get figured out.
Right now. Who do you want to be in the midst of the chaos, the change, the noise?
That question is at the heart of the work I do.

Presence isn't just a mindfulness practice,
it's a choice about identity. When you stop reacting to everything swirling around you
and get quiet enough to hear yourself think, you start making decisions from that place.
From who you actually are, not who the noise is telling you to be.

That's where real change starts. You might even be surprised by what you find.

If this is resonating, I'd love to hear where you are right now, literally or figuratively.
Drop a comment or send me a message. I read everything.
